Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Hi @Former-Member

For sure - those people you used to know - perhaps seemed to be friendly - ah no - they are not worth it - they could help but no - they don't. won't or can't and it's rather sad they are that way

But here you are - we can't do anything physical with you because we can't - but we would if we could -

I cried when I read about your little girl's ashes and the butterflies - how much harder it seems to me that it's so much harder for your little girl for you - my son was in so much trouble I focus more on his soul being free than what remained after he had gone - I don't know why this is so - perhaps because of the emotional pain he had and that he is at peace

And my son has been gone for so much longer too - and he wanted to - but still - what you wrote touched me in a beautiful way

It's your story and I love that you have shared it - to me stories are so important - I am a story-teller - the grand-daughter of story-tellers - perhaps part of my Celtic heritage

I am thinking of you between ships right now - or between steps - on your journey - and it's a very lonely journey

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Sounds like collectively we are making inroads into our collections of clutter.

Even though paperwork sorting has been slow, our office continues to improve. Have rearranged the furniture and it has made the space much more user friendly.

Found that the local council has dedicated e-waste available at the tip so as office is sorted we are adding to the collection which we hope will be ready to dispatch early in the new week.  This has freed up desk and shelf space for the things we actually use. Still very much a work in progress, but some more spaces looking just that little bit better.

Our shopping bag collection has also been sorted and an adequate supply packed into a container in the car boot.  Plastic bags have been saved to use as bin liners.

Progress is being made ...

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Quick wave @Former-Member

Hoping you have been able to make a little more progress.

Has it been decided what furniture  is staying and what needs to go?

Hoping you are starting to have clarity re: other decisions.

Our office is now heaps more user friendly. Made some inroads into the paperwork but still a heap to go. As we have a few other things destined for the tip, we will see if our friends are happy to bring the trailer around and take another load which will include our e-waste.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

hello @Former-Member, @Former-Member, @Owlunar, @Faith-and-Hope, @Appleblossom

trying to get rid of some old video players , dvd players etc that are sitting in the cupboard and an old computer on top but Nooooooooooooo

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

We've got an old computer that we refer to as "The Dinosaur", due to both its age and size. And brain the size of a peanut... relatively speaking. The main thing stopping me sending it to e-waste is that I need to find time to do a virtual declutter and download any files and photos on it that we want to keep... Hubby, however, is interested in keeping it for the sake of some old (but admittedly fun) games that we can't get for our much newer and smaller laptops.

We watched the War on Waste episode about e-waste recently. I had never really thought about the fact that being a no-TV house also means we don't have so many dead devices at risk of accumulating. We will, however, need to go through my parents' TVs/VCRs/DVD players/set top boxes and work out which are working and which are junk.

One odd bit of unused electronics we've got sitting around is an unopened Telstra TV box. It came as a bonus with our internet plan, but we've got nothing to plug it into... we should sell it on before the tech goes out of date. 😛

Hey @Former-Member, I've been thinking of you too. Let us know how you're going?

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Shaz51 @Smc Had forgotten the video player - have got it out and put it in the pile to go.

@Former-Member Thank you for sharing this journey with us.  It is our privilege.

colcandles.jpgYes definitely a good idea to leash that black dog and bring it heel.

With most jobs I have never found people keen to lend a hand.  You are doing a good job, making the hard decisions.  All better for being quirky.  They are your emotions and memories so you have total right to imbue your girl's things with your spirit.  Letting go of the bulky stuff, and distilling the essence as you take the next steps on your journey.

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

Hi @Shaz51

I am guessing you feel okay about getting rid of the old DVD players and the ancient computer but Mr Shaz really isn't up to that - but the comment but Nooooooooo indicates that its really hard for him -

After all - why keep them if they are being stored in a cupboard taking up space and you can only use one at a time really

I put my still-in-good order DVD player out for the hard rubbish collection with a note taped on it that it was in good order and it was gone to a good home within an hour - probably less - people cruise around looking for stuff to give a good home to each year - I have been guilty of picking up stuff for my garden at times - I think most people have a search at least

Getting rid of an old computer can be more tricky - we need to get rid of data - some data doesn't matter but there is always private stuff we need to delete

Goll-ee- where we once stored paper for years we now store computer data - is there any way out of this new idea of storing things electronically. Future civilizations are going to have a lot of fun inventing what we needed all this for

Hi @Former-Member

I'm always thinking of you and hope you are okay - well - just about okay - this will one day be a memory - at least - but you started a long time ago now - was that last year in the spring - I think so - all the things that can be stuffed into one year too - wow

Sending hugs

Re: SPRING-Clean Declutter - Need Help

@Owlunar, I wonder what will happen to data stored on "the cloud" or other offsite storage. There must be so much that people have saved, but will never actually get back to.
