Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Lol. I had to check and double check because I couldn't see the difference at first. @britishtvfan

So sorry. I'll do it right now.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

thank you @tyme

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

My apologies @britishtvfan . I was actually thinking what bristishvfans meant. I thought it was british versus fans.... meh? That's me in my ignorance which I'm first to admit. I'm so glad it's sorted. Feel free to let us know if we can help in any way in the future. You can also email us on team@saneforums.org πŸ™‚

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

no worries @tyme . as i said redroses was taken as i was told. i chose britishtvfan because i've grown up with old british tv so sitcoms, a drama show & old comedians (70s-80s, some 90s stuff). that's all i could think of, besides an old username i used to have on another social media but that's a bit  triggering for me now due to something

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Hello everyone,

I signed up for this a while ago but I was not ready in my recovery journey to reach out to others in the community. As it has now been two years since the psychosis (and subsequent diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder) and I have still not met anyone who has also experienced one, I am now reaching out to say hello to others but to also offer people who are going through it right now (in whatever way that may be) the advice which got me through: just hold on. That is partly what got me through these last two years and what will get me through times ahead that could also be decidedly bum.

Anyways, an interesting fact about me is that I haven't had a microwave in my house since I was six years old and this has made me somewhat illiterate with this particular appliance. I have since been told that putting a foil Tesco lasagna in the microwave is actually very bad so luckily I had a friend in a UK hostel kitchen save me from my own ignorance in the quest for warm convenience of bastardised Italian food. Stay safe people!

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Hey there @e_c ,

Welcome to the forums. We are glad to have you with us.

I hope others will be able to share their experiences with you. It sounds like you have been on quite a journey yourself in terms of your mental health. It's actually very  reassuring to know that you have been able to reflect on your journey and know when you are ready/not ready to connect with others.

As for your fun fact, it reminds me that I don't have a TV, so I'm quite illiterate in terms of what's on telly nowadays. So I can definitely relate!

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Hi all, new and wanted to introduce myself and my story and hoping to find either someone in a similar situation who may point me in a direction to help with my anxiety/depression. I am 64 years old and few years ago suffered a medical episode.
In short I suffered a cardiac arrest at work and then another in the ambulance on the way to hospital and then a third in the ED. Wasn’t expected to survive and my family was advised to say their goodbyes. As I said in short, I did survive but they expected me to have brain damage (to what extent unknown) as my brain was without oxygen for a total of 8 minutes, so they expected the worst.

Well after 4 months I left hospital. Was told that because my brain had suffered so much trauma I may experience problems in the future. I do suffer with my memory and of course now anxiety and depression. I had to give up work and because I don’t qualify for any gov’t assistance I sold my house to make ends meet to retirement age. My marriage ended due to my condition, but I saw that as a plus as she was no support whatsoever, basically a suck it up and get on with it, attitude.

I am now in a relationship with a beautiful lady who understands and gives me all the support I need. Because of all the medication I’m on for my heart condition I don’t want to add to them. And to make matters worse, having researched my medication found that three have β€œcan cause anxiety, depression and irritability”

So looking for anybody that’s in similar situation or any thoughts on how to deal with it, as been down the therapy track with no success.

Hi @V8junkie

Lovely to meet you here. I'm one of the peer workers here at SANE and moderate the forums. It sounds like things have been pretty rough for you. But wow, I'm so glad you're here to tell your story. It sounds quite miraculous that you survived!

I'm also glad you have found a beautiful partner who is supportive. That's such a blessing to you. Makes me sort of teary to be honest that your previous partner was so uncaring. Also teary with happiness that there are beautiful humans out there.

Anyway, unfortunately I don't have any answers in regards to your medication challenges. I really hope someone else can jump in with any ideas for you.

Keep reaching out

Hanami

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Thank you for your kind words, yes I was lucky to find this lady. Be wonderful to find a solution or ideas on how to combat it. Hopefully find a little support and also provide some.

Cheers

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

I used to hate therapy due to some bad experiences but maybe therapy isn't the problem it is just the therapists/experiences you have had. Therapy though is so expensive/inaccessible for other reasons and I also of course don't know how things have been for you. Anyways, welcome! So glad you have held on through it all and yeah keep cruising :))
