Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Hi, I'm struggling as a burnt out carer of an adult child with complex needs, along with my own problems. I haven't had enough support and and don't know where to go- I need a break from home but don't know if a mental health clinic would help, from the reviews I've come across. I'd be really grateful for any advice on Victoria Clinic from people who've been there recently? Thanks in advance, FluffyJ

Hey there! @FluffyJumper

Welcome to the SANE Forums, my name is Amber22 and I am a Peer Support Worker.

I am not from Victoria so unfortunately do not know much about it at all, but I'd really recommend you visiting the Family, Friends, and Carers side of our forums and looking/ posting in there (and the Lived Experience side for yourself!)

Let me know if you need any help navigating anything, you've made a great step to joining our forum and getting some support πŸ™‚

All the best

Thank you Shaz51

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Thanks @amber22. The wheels are turning in regard to my adult child, but I've just hit the wall myself resulting in being taken to hospital. I need time away from home but don't know where to go. I can see that I need some care right now.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

I think it's a really good first step to acknowledge that you need some support and care right now.

Do you currently have any supports around you? Friends, family, or even professional?

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Hello. I'm a young person who is dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression and a sensory disorder. I still live at home which is creating more difficulties at the moment. My family is very overbearing and doesn't understand what I'm going through no matter how much I try to explain the situation. They are very judgemental and it forces me to hide myself in my room for days at a time. It's nice to know that there are others out there that are going though similar things but to those who are doing a bit better, any advice?

Hi all,

I’m very new, first day on the forums.
Kinda wish it was set up like an app.. haha

I’m a mum of 2 wonderful little boys. My eldest is going through the process of getting diagnosed Autistic and ADHD. Since trying to understand that more I’ve come to the realisation that I’m also AuDHD and hoping to get a diagnosis for myself. But finding it hard to get in to see a psychiatrist.
I was diagnosed with FND just over 6 years ago and cPTSD by a neuropsych in 2020.
I've joined SANE because there’s a lot going on at the moment and being undiagnosed and trying to support my son and myself with our mental health etc is proving difficult. I’m looking for people who get it.

Re: Welcome! Introduce yourself here πŸ™‚

Welcome to the forums! I'm one of the peer moderators here at SANE.

I'm glad you found us and decided to join. It can be really helpful to connect with people who understand what you're going through and can provide support.

Navigating mental health challenges can be overwhelming, especially when trying to support your children as well. Seeking a diagnosis for yourself is a positive step towards understanding your own needs and finding appropriate support. However, I understand that it can be difficult to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. I've experienced that myself. It might be helpful to reach out to other mental health professionals, such as psychologists or therapists, who can also provide support and guidance.

In the meantime, engaging with online communities, like the one here on SANE, can provide a sense of understanding and support. You can share your experiences, ask questions, and learn from others who may have similar experiences.

Remember to take care of yourself as well, as being a parent and managing your own mental health can be demanding. Self-care activities, seeking support from friends and family, and practicing relaxation techniques can be beneficial in managing stress.

I hope others chime in with experiences of their own.

Sending hugs

Hanami
