@PeppiPatty - 1984 is a dystopian novel. I think it is the one I tried to read, but it freaked me out too much.... I have read all the novels I could find, but one of them was about the government reading your thoughts & it freaked me out. I have also watched a lot of dystopian films...
Think Hunger Games & Divergent...

Hello everybody. I am back a bit late but I was here in spirit.
@Former-Member I have old joints too and very careful to do low impact .. so at gymn ... it was row machine, bikes, and stepper, I needed to workout out at high intensity to get heart rate up ... and couldnt run on the tread mill ... cos of neck ...so came to prefer the cross trainer ... I think doing that chewed through a lot of my anger ... but no way is my anger finished ... I am looking forward to see how it is handled as a topic.
I did that rather than go a lot to the chiro or osteo ... that was my budget ... and it was the best way to spend my money ... I could be analytical about any strains and how they were triggered ... which I now do more to my emotional issues .... it gave me an outlet ... I was past worrying about what anyone thought about me ... only socialised minimally ... but enough to stop my voice going croaky from lack of use ... I started singing after I stopped the gym.
@Mazarita I never liked the language of winners and losers ... saw it as foreign ... came to see it as agro teen talk ... but then was shocked when my aunt (15 yrs older than me) started to speak like that about life ... maybe it was cos she was a secondary teacher ... but there was not much compassion or patience about the issues my sibling and i faced so it kind of put up a brick wall ... she was supposed to be my godmother ... I guess now I see her as having the maturity level of a teenager.
I think that type of language is pushed by competitive types and it is an instant turn off to me when the talk is like that referring to others ... I was sad you thought yourself a loser ... I dont ... why do we even have those categories?
Hope you all have a good weekend

Hi @Appleblossom. Good to see you later in the party.
Yes, though my ideology is against it, I have to admit that somewhere in the brew is the feeling that I am a loser. Both my parents were gambling addicts so win and lose was fairly ingrained early on I guess. It's not everything of my thoughts though, not by a long shot (so to speak). I feel okay about not really chasing the 'win' so much anymore. I don't mind a little bit of competition but essentially for me the game is not about that, not any more anyway and maybe never really was for me in my truest self. The winner/loser dichotomy is powerful in society though so it's not so surprising that some of us might get a bit hung up on it.
That's sad about your godmother. I've had rifts with aunties too, healing now that they are elderly oddly enough. They've mellowed and so have I.

I think I can be competitive ... but its not a strong motivator ... and seeing a dog eat dog world ... is a big lesson against it ...
we only had a little bit of play gambling ... with cards and 20c coins and I associated that with good family fun ...
I like the idea of win-win ... but it can be hard to achieve ... and also PB .. Personal Best ... anyway that was what I tried to generate in the family .... but my girls are very competitive ... were they modelling me? Am I in denial about being competitive ... I try my best ... but get quite scared when there is overt winning issues ... I usually let the other win .. my daughter started to get very cross with me about that ... said I wasnt being honest and that I should try to win ... I can win in writing essays maybe ... but that is really a PB trying to express something in the best way
About my aunt ... there were 2 I was closer too ... but I have had to detach as they really didnt care as much as I thought (optimistic delusion??) they did .... maybe one day things will be better ... but they will have to make the approaches. This aunt was very odd in saying things about me being clinging .. and that she had a "stash of hash" and was a good poet ... when really she was warning me not to talk about her illegal activities even though she had a long career as a school music teacher ...she cut me off ... because I asked her to ask my mother to her 2nd wedding ... old family feuds ... and I got into the crossfire ... In the meantime ... I am less impressed with my Dutch family than I used to be.
