TW: Loss due to natural disasters
I'm hearing and listening @ArraDreaming . I cannot honestly say I know what it is like, but I know @Shaz51 can (please let me know if you'd rather not talk about it).
I was only speaking to someone the other night who was in utter depression because their house was flooded out earlier this year. They had only just purchased the house, and within a few weeks of moving in, they lost everything.
I wish I could stop it. It is happening everywhere.
For tonight, you are right - I think it is about having a distraction. However, it's also important to validate what you are feeling.
Sitting with you, tyme

Thanks @tyme it feels silly for me to worry about it, like I’m making it about me but I also just care so much, I barely know a lot of these people some of them don’t even know me but it doesn’t matter, it’s unfair to have this happen, my partner has gone to sleep for the night and we’ve been talking about it for a few hours. We’ll go up there as soon as it’s safe. I just feel sick about it. The photos has got me thinking about our kids and what if it was us tryibg to get our kids out knowing that we’ll coming back to everything ruined, I feel guilty sitting here (near a river, but on a very large hill) knowing I will be ok yet nothing I can do

I was also going to point out what you have mentioned @ArraDreaming .
You are feeling it because you care very much. This is who you are - a very caring person.
As for the floods, it's not just a nationwide thing. It's international. One of my colleagues spoke to me only a few weeks ago, saying that they are sending money overseas because the people have lost EVERYTHING due to flash flooding. Even their very own shoes have just floated off downstream so they don't have any shoes to wear.
As you said, there's only so much we can do right now. I wonder if you can practice some self-care tonight and so you will be well enough to go there when it is safe enough to do so.
I'll make an exception tonight - I'll add sugar to your cuppa?

@ArraDreaming , you are being a great support to your partner, soo proud of you
It is very hard going through these natural disasters
I have been through cyclones and flooding
And then our house fire
I am glad that her families are OK and safe
And it is understandable that you are thinking of how you would cope in this situation but it is amazing how strong we are when these things happen

I just feel so sad for her @Shaz51
And the support she has given me over the years, and of course when mum died, it’s not about anyone owing anything but she’s just such a huge support me and now it’s my turn to be the strong one
