Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Hi there,

I'm feeling like a spinning top or a pendulum that keeps getting knocked off my axis and I don't know where I'm going to land. I have been diagnosed this year as an adult with ADHD and autism. I'm also processing trauma.

I've lost a few close friends/family through establishing boundaries and I feel pretty lonely.

I'm really missing physical/emotional intimacy but feel like a broken person that no one will love (my dopamine chasing and avoidant behaviour [and ultimately my own choices] mean I abused alcohol and food and put on a stack of weight [which, thanks to a dopaminergic antidepressant I've now lost a lot of] and feel pretty unattractive, so more avoidance of dating).

Does anyone have advice on how to challenge yourself when feeling like this? And/or has anyone else felt like this?

Thanks for your kindness xx

Hi @Arias

Welcome to the forums. I'm so sorry things have been so rough for you. Trauma, ADHD, Autism...nothing to take lightly for sure. It must be a lot to process for you. As someone who has had anxiety forever I know that feeling of broken-ness too well. It's awful, you feel like you are so worthless. But there is always hope. That part that feels broken can heal, be mended, put back together. It won't be put back the way it was but there's beauty in that. I like to do collage when I'm feeling that way as I can cut things up to my heart's content then re-arrange papers and ephemera to make something I see as beautiful. It can give me a sense of being whole again.

I hope you find lots of support here and look forward to seeing you around

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Hello there @Arias

It takes immense strength and courage to share your story and navigate life while dealing with ADHD, autism, and processing trauma, especially when you've been diagnosed as an adult and you're not alone in your journey.  We are all with you and here for you.

Good on you for expressing your boundaries with family and friends, I know it's not an easy thing to do but at the end of the day, you have done the right thing and you need to take care of yourself.

Please remember, that you are not defined by your diagnoses. They are aspects of who you are, but they do not limit and define your potential for growth, happiness, and life fulfillment.

You've already shown immense courage by taking those crucial steps for self-healing, and self-care

Sounds like you are on the right track to creating a more fulfilling life and future for yourself.

Please continue to keep us updated on your journey.
