Welcome & getting started

I found this connection on Facebook and thought I would give it a go, as I do find when I get depressed it helps to talk about it. I suffer sever depression from time to time and also ptsd. Thought I was suffering ptsd from the domestic violence I went through,  but I recently found out that that root cause could be grief from the loss of my partner of 10 years. He passed away 18 years ago and I still get emotional when I talk about him and I think I definitely have some unresolved issues from that relationship,  which effect me constantly.

So if anyone else was struggling with grief and found a way to deal with it,  I would love to hear from you.

Hi @Davina55 asnd welcome
Well done for reaching out for some support
Everyone processes grief differently so theres no right or wrong. The way i try to remember my nan is i made a little shrine in the house, i get quite emotional still too but its like my own special way of remembering her. Maybe youd like to so something like this?

Im also sorry you experienced domestic violence, you may have ptsd too as you can have a few mental health diagnoses at the same time. Can i ask if you would consider counselling? It might be good to talk about the DV and also help you process your grief too.

Re: New Member

I have had counselling in the past,  but moved to the other side of town recently.  I didn't have any support where I moved too, but after some bad depression, I knew I needed help and found a local GP that specialised in mental health and at the time since was going through bad depression,  suicidal thoughts and trying to convince a friend not to end his life and to react out for help, I was a mess. So he referred me to the mental health triage unit, and I was helped through the difficult time I was facing.  I am now on a waiting list to see  psychologist, which is in February 2021.  But in the meantime if anything flares up, I have lots if numbers to call. And have found a few good friends that have said that I can talk to them at any time if I feel the need.

I have had a bit if counselling already regarding the DV, but after seeing the triage team, they are sending me some specific information with regard to the counselling and sessions that they provide for DV sufferers.  Like self defence etc, and they also mentioned joining a group session as well.  I am always keen to learn new things to help improve myself and strengthen my mental health as well.  Thank you for your response.

Re: New Member

@Davina55  Hi, another welcome from me.

I’m sorry you lost your partner 18 years ago. Grief is a very difficult thing to work through.

I’m pleased you have an understanding GP, and the mental health team. Sorry you have to wait to see a psychiatrist though, it makes it hard.

I’m glad you have found us here. And I hope you receive all the support you need.

Take care

Re: New Member

Thank you, I thought by reading other people's stories that have gone through similar might help me.

@Davina55  Me again.

Just a quick post. The @brings a dropdown, that’s how we tag each other.

You might like to check out the Good morning  thread, and meet some others once they wake up.
