Description
Lasting just seven to ten days, the flowers that emerge from the spherical bud of the peony are a thing of wonder, so we should appreciate the ephemeral beauty of the flower while we can.
In the language of flowers, the peony symbolises good fortune and happiness and is associated with brightness, prosperity, boldness and honour. The flower also has other symbolic associations, including compassion, love, beauty and female fertility. In England, the peony is sometimes referred to as the ‘rose royale’ and the Chinese word for peony, shaoyao, means ‘the most beautiful’. Peonies have been painted by many European artists, including Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Édouard Manet, and the opulent beauty of the peony has long been a popular subject in Chinese and Japanese literature, painting and decoration.
A Chinese legend has it that a capricious empress commanded all the flowers in her garden to blossom at the same time. All acquiesced apart from the peony. Annoyed by the flower’s refusal, the empress banished it to the coldest reaches of the empire, yet despite the inhospitable environment, the peony thrived. The empress, duly impressed, allowed the peony to return, declaring it the ‘queen of all flowers’.
Depicting happiness and joy, the coin’s obverse shows a smiling young woman whose hair is adorned with laurel and pearls. To the right of her head is a curved cornucopia from which peony calyxes and coins are pouring. The coin’s reverse features three imprints of real peonies in different stages of flower, behind them a band of stylised peonies.
None of the principal flower images in the series is based on a drawing or illustration. The starting point of every coin design is a real flower grown in the garden, which is then pressed using a special technique that captures the flower in its natural state.

Hi @Mustang67
Thanks for including me in your posts. Was really interesting to read about the different coins and what is on them. I like the fact that they all have a different meaning.
I hope your medication issues are sorted out soon.

You are welcome @Snowie
I found the information interesting. It makes me want to grow some of these flowers. But I live in a cabin and don't have a garden.
I would have to see how big the plants grow. If they are not too big, I could always grow them in pots on the small verandah.
I get my meds dispensed in a weekly Webster pack and I am only allowed 1 weeks supply at a time. I switched to a generic brand and they are not working, so have asked the pharmacist to switch back to the brand name. I just not sure how many packs they already made up with the generic one.

I get Webster packs too @Mustang67 Just like you only allowed one week at a time too.
Growing them in pots does sound like a nice idea if they don't get too big.

hey @Mustang67 so nice to see you around! sorry to hear about the generic meds not working out for you - hope the switch back was okay!
those are some cool coins, i particularly like the The Chamomile Silver Proof Coin. love the whole 'renew' concept with the phoenix. might start drinking chamomile tea as well, hopefully it's as calming as it sounds.

Hi @Mustang67 and coins fans,
trust this finds everyone having a positive Monday with a little spring 🌻 in their step.
This language of flowers is a beautiful coin!
I didn’t realise it featured actual pressed plant matter. Spectacular!!! I’m going to look closer into the set. They are so wonderful!
It reminds me of a story as I recall a lady who planted chamomile between the bricks of her path to the clothesline and every time she walked out in bare feet or with shoes she would crush a few here and there and it would release the beautiful fragrance. She said her clothes also smelt of chamomile and lavender, which she planted around the central beam of her clothes hoist : )
I recently bought a few cheep golds from the Smallest Coins In The World collection, from Macquarie Mint. Seems an affordable way to own a little gold and Downies sell them so I pounced when I saw them for half the RRP - which is about their spot gold value. I got the ballerina, the Australian gold rush, and a couple of others. They are tiny and cute : ) just a little larger than a pea : )
…Bluey’s AP site crashed so I was crushed not to buy some coloured Bluey coins and put the money towards the golds.

Hi @Harmonium I purchased a 2023 Australia Mini Money Emu $5 1/2g Frosted UNC Gold Coin last year, as a start to investment coins for my daughter. I didn't really stop to think what size 1/2g would be. So when the tiny coin arrived, I burst out laughing. But at least now I can say, I own some gold.

Hi @Harmonium here are the bullion coins I have so far. I think this is what I want to purchase, so I can leave something of value to my daughter.
I purchased these 1 gram silver bars because they were so cute and affordable.
And I saw these copper coins, so I thought why not add some variety to my collection.

Hi @rav3n I contacted the chemist this morning to ensure that they switch back to the brand named antidepressants.
[removed by moderator]. So unfortunately this means it is going to cost me $21.60 x 2 every month. But I would rather do that, than feel like I have been the last few weeks. I have been feeling so numb and have no interest in communicating with anyone. So no social media, haven't bothered checking my emails etc.
Which sucks, because once again I missed out on a PNC Christmas coin release and the sites that were selling them, were all sold out.
I am a member of a PNC group on Facebook, so I put a posting on there to see if anyone was selling them for the RRP and a lovely lady replied and she posted them out to me this morning.
And during this numb time, I was even thinking about giving the coin collecting up. Which for me would not be good, as this is the main way that I interact with other people. And when feel good, I really love the hobby.
So hopefully the medication doesn't take too long to build back up in my system.
