in the media they always say it's a long weekend but it's not...

retail is open on Monday, other people are working

so why do they always say this?

Tuesday is the public holiday but Monday is a working day

Retail people are working on Tuesday as well

Judging from the way Australia is, in my opinion, Monday was informally forgotten. People just heard public holiday is on a Tuesday, decided it was stupid and thought it should be a long weekend. 

People do not think that there are many jobs that do not do nine to five hours. The context of "public holiday" is not in context. 

Why should one horse race that goes for approx four minutes, be the race that stops a nation? Horses die every year, people lose lots of money (been there) and just generally it is one of the strangest days ever. 

People don't like to question. Media, I don't engage with the normal media channels. Look behind the scenes of what is presented.
